Purchasing Assistant

Purchasing Department
Summary
Under the direct supervision of the Purchasing Manager this position provides administrative and data entry support for the Office and Purchasing Department.
Essential Functions

1. Purchases goods and services according to the company’s policies and procedures.
2. Evaluates vendors based on price, reliability, capability, and previous transaction history.
3. Works with vendors to negotiate volume and cash transaction discounts, and other available discounts.
4. Ensures that purchasing documents are complete and accurate and include appropriate and reasonable terms and conditions.
5. Maintains pricing histories and other vendor records.
6. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with proven negotiation skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Thorough understanding of purchasing procedures and policies.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
- Fast-paced, high-intensity work environment. Strong communication skills to collaborate with teammates and understand the details of a task.
- Positive attitude with a focus on creating solid working relationships that foster long term internal efficiency.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in related field highly preferred.
- At least two years of purchasing experience required.
Supervisory Responsibility
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
Physical Demands
This is largely a deskbound role; however, some filing, walking, and standing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand,as necessary. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is required to sit for prolonged periods of time and work on a computer. The employee must sometimes lift and move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. with a 1-hourunpaid lunch period.
