Job description
You might not be up for this.
Many aren’t. For example, if you’re not obsessed with solving the unsolvable and building the unbuildable, you probably won’t do well as a Project Manager at Krekow Jennings.
If you don’t have enough experience managing architecturally-significant projects with budgets north of $10 million, you may find yourself struggling when a client hires us to build a lakeside house that requires temporarily rerouting, rebuilding and reinstating a natural salmon-bearing stream running through the basement with virtually no construction access to the site other than from the lake itself. That might not be as enjoyable for you as it was for us.
If you aren’t a creative problem solver with vision and empathy, you may fall short when our client’s architect asks us to build a 25,000-square-foot guest residence with a 24,000-gallon indoor pool and a 95,000-gallon outdoor pool.
If you’re not an excellent collaborator and communicator with a thorough understanding of construction procedures (including structure, building envelope, MEP, interior and exterior finishes), how will you manage the renovation of a 35,000-square-foot historic residence with all of the finish materials reconstructed to be precisely the same as they were in 1908 when the residence was originally built; all while bringing the structure up to current code and adding modern mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems?
If you don’t have a degree or certificate in Construction Management, or the equivalent education or experience, how will you develop projects like these from pre-construction through final completion?
How will you identify, qualify, and manage subcontractors, look over and deeply understand architectural, structural, landscape, mechanical, and electrical drawings, and maintain KJ’s impeccable reputation for stunningly accurate estimates and timelines?
The architects we work with are household names, our clients usually are too, but no one will ever know who they are. Except them. And that’s one reason they keep coming back to us to realize their exquisite fever dreams. You know, things like a two-story powder room in the shape of a beehive, constructed completely of stone.
The money is great and the work environment is inspiring, so much so that the average KJ staffer has been here for at least a decade.
But you really have to be up for this job. Are you?
We are an equal opportunity employer. All we ask for is excellence, integrity, courage, and a mad work ethic.
