Roles & Responsibilities:

Informatics Pharmacist Analyst works in the build, implementation, and maintenance of automation and technology to optimize pharmacy practice, pharmacy systems, and the medication‐use process. Specializes in the medication process, from ordering to administration, and is responsible for effective process design, development, and implementation of the Electronic Medical Record, Clinical Decision Support, Automated Dispensing Cabinets, and any other new or additional technology that is implemented in the pharmacy used to support the medication management process. Supports pharmacists, physicians, nurses, and other clinicians as the resource for requests related to EMR and pharmacy system changes and additions. Provides EMR‐related staff education/training and assists with precepting of pharmacy residents



Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assists in the planning and implementation of system wide pharmacy computer systems.
  • Assists in maintaining all required interfaces with other departments/systems.
  • Conducts required maintenance on pharmacy computer systems and assists other departments/vendors in interface maintenance and problem resolution.
  • Acts as a liaison between the Pharmacy Department, Information Systems, hardware providers (e.g., IBM, Pyxis) and software vendors (e.g., Carefusion, Sentry, KitChek, Prism/Epic).
  • Assist in planning & supervising system upgrades.
  • Evaluates operational systems and recommends improvements.
  • Assesses departmental hardware needs and makes recommendations for purchases.
  • Creates special reports and file extracts from existing databases, using generalized routines for intra-and inter-departmental use.
  • Tests modified programs to ensure changes operate correctly with no adverse impact on programs, system, operations or pharmacy services.
  • Maintains required files (e.g., drug formularies, drug interactions, user security privileges, physician files, etc.).
  • Runs required reports/programs on a scheduled basis (e.g., end of month reports/back-up)
  • Defines system security and control procedures.
  • Updates program historical and procedural documentation to reflect modifications.
  • Completes all required documentation.
  • Maintains a safe, clean working environment.
  • Maintains and enforces appropriate security measures at all times.
  • Develops functionality within the Pharmacy computer system to assist in the provision of cost-effect drug therapy.
  • Maintains accurate billing information and regularly addresses/communicates to Patient Accounts or Finance.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy or PharmD required; Master's degree or completion of a certificate program in information systems, project management or related field preferred. PGY- 2 in Informatics preferred.


Experience Requirements

At least 1 year recent experience in health-system pharmacy required, including pediatrics and oncology services.

Relevant computer experience or specific academic courses in computer operations sufficient to meet the responsibilities and objectives of the position; strong analytical skills; effective verbal and written communication skills; familiarity with the role of pharmacy and pharmacy terminology; Familiar with a current pharmacy information system; familiar with the HITECH Act and Meaningful Use and its stages


Licensing and Certification Requirements (if applicable)

License in pharmacy required

Compensation

The Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides a salary range to comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $120,000.00 - $170,000.00 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
