Job description

At GFiber, we believe in the power of great internet that lets people do more, helps communities get stronger and makes amazing things possible. We're not just growing to build better internet experiences, we're also building a welcoming place where people who want to make a difference can grow their careers.

GFiber is an Alphabet company that brings Google Fiber and Google Fiber Webpass internet services to homes and businesses across the United States. Our growing, inclusive team is expanding as we connect more cities and people.

Role Description

GFiber's projects, like our users, span the globe and require managers to keep the big picture in focus while being able to dive into the unique engineering challenges we face daily. As an OSP Engineering Lead, you'll drive complex, multi-disciplinary projects using your engineering expertise. You plan requirements with internal customers and usher projects through the entire project lifecycle. This includes managing project schedules, identifying risks and clearly communicating them to project stakeholders. You're equally at home explaining your team's analyses and recommendations to executives as you are discussing the technical trade-offs in product development with engineers. You like being on-the-ground, executing complex projects with cross-functional team members to build and maintain a robust network serving our current and future customers.

In this role, you'll:

  • Provide oversight and lead the team responsible for the outside plant engineering of Google Fiber's network from preliminary design to construction.
  • Manage vendor production of efficient designs for new cities & developments, network relocations, and network upgrades.
  • Establish relationships with local municipalities and other third-party stakeholders and serve as a strong advocate & ambassador for Google Fiber in all third-party interactions.
  • Provide engineering vendor selection, engagement, and management to deliver within schedule, budget and scope.
  • Support finance metric development, reporting, and dashboard reporting.

At a minimum we'd like you to have:

  • 7 years of project management and people management experience, which may be a combination of direct employee management and direct vendor management in the telecommunications field.
  • Experience creating, interpreting, and modifying telecommunications network drawings/route maps, developing or auditing scopes of work for construction projects, and interpreting fiber test results.
  • Practical experience working with GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and database management including AutoCAD, ESRI, and/or shape file functionality.

It's preferred if you have:

  • 10 years of program management and engineering experience in the telecommunications industry.
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Telecommunications or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience leading teams in operational improvement and process development.

The base salary range for this full-time position is between $125,000 - $137,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Your recruiter will share more about the specific salary range for your targeted location during the hiring process.
