Summary

This position provides confidential direct response services and crisis intervention to victim/survivors of gender-based violence including, but not limited to students who have experienced sexual assault, dating/domestic violence, stalking, and harassment. This position works with partners on campus, as well as the community, to offer education, advocacy and expertise related to the impact of trauma and gender-based violence.

PRIMARY DUTIES

  • Provide trauma informed, direct services for victim/survivors such as: intervention and advocacy, safety planning, referrals for forensic medical exams and personal protection orders, and arranging for housing and academic support.
  • Provide long-term advocacy during criminal and university Title IX proceedings.
  • Design, implement and oversee campus Co-Advocate program.
  • Participate in the design and implementation of education for incoming undergraduate students in conjunction with campus partners.
  • Serve as a referral resource to campus and community resources.
  • Develop and implement evaluation processes to determine efficacy of violence prevention and victim advocacy programs.
  • Coordinate and participate in campus training around diverse gender-based violence issues.
  • Draft annual reports for evaluation purposes.
  • Oversee budget expenses related to assigned programs.
  • Supervise undergraduate students, graduate assistants, and interns.
  • Apply for, oversee, and assess grant opportunities related to advocacy, prevention, and outreach efforts.
  • Participate in community committees, such as meeting monthly with Ottawa County’s Criminal Case Review Team and representing GVSU on local and state violence prevention teams.
  • Represent the Center for Women and Gender Equity on Enrollment and Development committees, workgroups, etc. that would benefit from this role’s expertise.
  • Assist in providing information, advocacy, referral and other direct services to Center for Women and Gender Equity clientele.
  • Performs other duties as required/assigned by leadership.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, counseling, student affairs or related field.
  • Experience in violence prevention/response work, or crisis management.
  • Exceptional communication skills and strong organizational abilities.
  • Demonstrated commitment to issues of diversity and gender equity.
  • Prior experience managing and supervising teams and/or projects.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Experience with programming and assessment.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES PREFFERED

  • Master’s degree in social work, counseling, student affairs or related field.
  • Higher education experience.
  • Experience with the hiring and supervision of graduate students.
  • Budget, grant writing implementation, and assessment experience.
  • Knowledge of Title IX and the Clery Act.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Normal in-office environment. Some travel may be required.
