SUPERVISED BY: County Supervisor

STATUS: Non-Exempt

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Regular Full Time

JOB SUMMARY: The Social Services Specialist is responsible for providing social service programming and outreach activities that benefit a targeted population. The Social Services Specialist is engaged in activities for all CACEHR social service programs and other programs, as assigned. The Social Service Specialist will engage in outreach activities, program monitoring and generating reports, as required. The Service Specialist will ensure compliance with all policies, procedures and regulations of the funding sources. The Service Specialist will act in a professional manner at all times.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Facilitate all aspects of the Social Services and Outreach programs, including development and implementation of social service programs, home visits, congregate presentations, pre-screening, and other outreach activities including program sustainability.
  • Assist customers’ needs using approved assessment procedures. Input information into appropriate computerized tracking systems, including OCEAN and Benefit Bank. Make necessary external referrals to local agencies/organizations and energy programs.
  • Conduct targeted outreach and face-to-face interaction such as home visits and presentations in congregate settings; according to the ROMA developmental framework, timeline and measurable outcomes.
  • Track social service and outreach activities. Follows up to determine outcomes.
  • Maintain confidential participant files in accordance with program regulations.
  • Generate all direct reports and provide input for the on-going performance evaluation process of the program.
  • Establish and maintain all procedures related to successful completion of the program and prepare four success stories annually.
  • Keep informed of available community resources that can be utilized to meet current and future program needs.
  • Utilize technology to enhance capacity of agency.
  • Attend in-service training and other professional training opportunities as assigned by Programs Coordinator.

  • Must understand community action and is committed to agency culture; acts as a role model.
  • Be effective at team building and creating positive morale.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of privileged information.
  • Be familiar with and have an understanding of the agency’s mission, strategic plan, goals and measures.
  • Maintain a neat, clean, professional appearance and demeanor at all times; and exercise good health habits related to personal hygiene.
  • All other duties and responsibilities as assigned by Programs Coordinator.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS/EXPECTATIONS:

  • Associate Degree in related field.
  • Three (3) years experience working in outreach in a social services environment or other non-profit organization.
  • Must possess excellent written and interpersonal communication skills, and strong organizational skills.
  • Must have computer experience and knowledge of all other office equipment.
  • Exhibit knowledge of business communication; must have excellent spelling and grammar skills.
  • Must have an understanding and awareness of the needs of low-income families.
  • Willing to travel out-of-town and overnight for training.
  • Must have access to operational automobile on a daily basis and proof of liability insurance.
  • Physical exam, background check, and pre-employment and random drug screen, as required.
  • Must have physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
