We're looking for someone to join our team as a RN, Risk Management Specialist who:

Coordinates and supports the administration of the risk management program for the organization. Develops and implements appropriate measures to identify and minimize the risk of injury to patients, visitors and staff, and to minimize loss or damage to property. Support and participates in the Patient Safety process by coordinating individual files and trend data for issues for referral to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. Acts as a technical subject matter expert in own and possibly related discipline(s). Has substantial understanding of techniques, processes, procedures to perform the job and seeks to complete tasks in creative and effective ways. Runs program(s) with moderate budget/impact.

Essential Functions:

  • Supports the development and implementation of the existing risk management programs to be consistent with the established philosophies and procedures of the organization. Reviews and analyzes incident reports to evaluate event severity and identify potential system/process deficits via exercising critical thinking skills and clinical judgment; assesses completeness of relevant information in incident reports and performs review of corresponding medical charts as necessary to determine report ability according to regulatory criteria and clinical interpretations.
  • Coordinates and assures efficient and effective occurrence review and claim file management. Evaluates practice patterns, interventions, outcomes, and regulatory compliance. Prepares case summaries, and timelines with the goal of identifying proactive risk reduction opportunities to improve patient care and mitigate legal risks. Collaborates with the hospital-wide Accreditation Tracer program for activities that aims for risk reduction and prevention in clinical practice and the care environment, as assigned by the department Director.
  • Creates aggregate reports as assigned for trending of incident types, severity, and preparing action/resolution proposal based on emerging issues via facilitating discussions with relevant department leaders. Develops education strategy/content aiming to mitigate legal risks associated with practice and environmental safety gaps for optimal patient safety, clinical outcome and regulatory compliance.
  • Analyzes information, reaches decisions, takes appropriate action, and follows through, based on review of incident reports, legal case investigation, and hospital-wide risk/compliance-related aggregated data. Utilizes the electronic medical record to identify co-morbidities, complications, and compliance with hospital policies and procedures as well as community standards of care. Contributes to better understanding and interpretation of criteria for case review.
  • Participates in national databases submission via evaluating practice patterns, interventions, outcomes, and regulatory compliance. Leads out in preparing case summaries, timelines, initial RCA for complicated cases with the goal of identifying proactive risk reduction opportunities to improve patient care and mitigate legal risks. Provides risk management information on medical and health staff to medical staff services for use in the credentialing process.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

You'll be successful with the following qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree (BSN): Preferred

Required Licenses/Certifications:

  • Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the state of practice: Required

The estimated base pay for this position is $85,336 to $106,670. Additional individual compensation may be available for this role through years of experience, differentials, extra shift incentives, bonuses, etc. Base pay is only a portion of the total rewards package and a comprehensive benefits program is available for qualifying positions.
