JOB SUMMARY

This position performs litter pick up and general maintenance on all city facilities and assists with landscape maintenance in public green spaces and rights-of-way. This position is a short-term grant funded position (subject to future appropriation).

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Assists with landscaping duties to include, mowing, trimming, edging, weed eating, fertilizing, and spraying on City property and rights-of-way.
• Assist with collecting and removal of litter, trash and debris from roadways and roadsides.
• Assist with clearing limbs and trees from right of way.
• Assists with facility maintenance activities and projects.
• Performs sidewalk maintenance and repair.
• Operates heavy equipment to include backhoe, mini-excavator, and tractor.
• Works on special projects as assigned.
• Cleans and maintains equipment.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Valid South Carolina Driver's License.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

• Knowledge of basic landscape maintenance techniques.
• Knowledge of safety practices involved in municipal facilities.
• Knowledge of local, state, and federal safety policies and procedures.
• Ability to operate power tools, hand tools, and associated diagnostic equipment.
• Ability to operate weed eater, edger, chainsaw, brush cutter and lawnmower.
• Ability to perform heavy lifting.
• Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The work is requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and up to 20 pounds of force to move objects and the following physical abilities: balancing, climbing, crawling, crouching, feeling, fingering, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, lifting, mental acuity, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity, and walking.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work is typically performed outdoors with constant exposure to dirt, grease, irritating chemicals, insects, and inclement weather.
