Overview:

Camp Loyaltown is our residential summer camp and off season respite for children and adults with intellectual developmentally disabilities. Respite is a 3 to 4 day/ overnight stay that leaves from an AHRC Nassau/Citizens Options Unlimited INC. location. Practices and promotes the agency’s mission statement in every interaction. Responsible for the supervision, care and safety of their assigned person at all times throughout the persons respite stay. Requires living alongside other people.

Responsibilities:
Primary duties and responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Practices and promotes the agencies mission statements in every interaction Through family and community engagement, Citizens supports people to live the life they choose
  • Adheres to all regulations, agency policy and procedures, the employee handbook, and agency and program training requirements
  • Reports to the Justice Center as a mandated reporter if there is reasonable cause to suspect abuse or neglect. Additionally, must follow all agency incident policy and procedures
  • Reads the persons file(s) and knows the abilities, and special needs of their individuals to ensure that their needs are being met, i.e., supervision requirements/ratio (1:1, 1:2, and 1:3, 2:1).
  • Reports and documents any events/activities that may hinder the health, safety and well-being of the person that reside there (i.e., allegations of abuse, injuries, broken equipment, etc.).
  • Know the abilities, disabilities and special needs of the additional individuals on their respite stay to ensure that their needs are being met
  • Accompanies and/or transports people using safe driving practices from Long Island to Hunter New York, shopping and recreational outings
  • Responsible for the cleanliness of the health Center, vehicles as well as the individuals clothing and personal belongings
  • Responsible for all daily activities in terms of participation, punctuality and leadership and ensures that the scheduled activity program is followed for their trip.
  • Maintain a daily log of their individual events/activities along with co-counselors to ensure communication with administration
  • Ensure that participants leave respite with all of their clothing and personal belonging that they arrived with.
  • Reports all accidents or illness resulting in any physical discomfort of the individual immediately to the Nurse for immediate follow up
  • Reports and documents any events/activities that may hinder the health, safety and well-being of the person (i.e., allegations of abuse, broken equipment, etc.)
  • Adheres to New York Federal and State regulations, agency policy and procedures, the employee handbook and the agency and programs training requirements
  • Acts as a good role model for all individuals by following and reinforcing all camp/respite rules and regulations
  • Accepts all other responsibilities as assigned by the Director, Assistant Director, Nurses, and all administrative staff
  • Additional tasks as assigned by supervisor

This position requires regular and substantial unsupervised or unrestricted physical contact with people receiving services and, therefore, is subject to successful completion of fingerprint/criminal background check
Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Prior experience supporting people with developmental disabilities preferred
  • Qualified NYS driver's license that is also qualified in accordance with agency insurance standards is required
  • Completion and maintenance of yearly CPR and SCIP status
  • Ability to communicate and understand written and oral directives/information and an excellent team player with positive attitude are required.
