POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Regional Sports Director is responsible for providing Cause-Driven management and operations for all Youth and Adult Sports Programming at the designated YMCAs. Day to day operations include staff supervision, fiscal control, program development, program area facility management/maintenance, marketing, and volunteer development. The Regional Sports Director is also responsible for hiring, training, supervising, and leading their staff team in superior levels of member service and engagement in accordance with the association guidelines.

Division of Duties:

  • 70% Supervision and management of Youth and Adult Sports Programs
  • 20% Association, family center meetings and/or leader on duty assignment
  • 10% Leadership to Annual Giving and other special projects

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Priorities

  • Direct leadership of sports programs
  • Provides strong leadership and support for attaining association’s goals and objectives
  • Provides strong fiscal management in all areas of responsibility

The Regional Sports Director must understand and be willing to learn the necessary skills required for the successful completion of duties including:
1. Budget and Financial Performance

  • Develops and manages the budgets related to the position
  • Makes necessary purchases, inventories, and deliveries of all program related supplies in accordance with Association standards

2. Program Development and Membership Engagement

  • Provides safe, organized, and quality sports, camp, and programs that serve the assigned center’s community needs
  • Plans, develops, and implements sports programs
  • Creates opportunities for members to form small communities and build meaningful relationships
  • Provides leadership, plan and execute community-programming opportunities in the extended Chesapeake community
  • Plans, markets, and executes quality programs to serve more kids, teens, adults, and families
  • Develops, produces, and distributes program information necessary to promote assigned programs, in accordance with branch marketing plans
  • Ensures high quality programs through innovative program development, evaluations, and ongoing training of staff
  • Expands current sports offerings with high quality programming in accordance with the Association Gold Book guidelines

3. Team Performance Towards Organizational Goals

  • Provides strong leadership and support for attaining Association’s goals and objectives of the strategic plan
  • Hires, trains, evaluates, and supervises sports team members
  • Recruits and trains program volunteers
  • Provides leadership and support for branch management team, annual support campaign, and volunteer committees/boards as assigned
  • Performs the duties of direct reports as needed

4. Fundraising

  • Participates in a successful annual support campaign, with staff giving and membership involvement

5. Professional Development

  • Completes New Staff Orientation, blood borne pathogens, child abuse prevention and trainings as required
  • Attends mandatory staff meetings and appropriate Department Cabinets
  • Caring, Honesty, Respect, Responsibility, and Faith and promote the YMCA Mission
  • All other duties as assigned

6. Facility Management

  • Ensures upkeep of related facilities and equipment
  • Effectively coordinates facility usage for assigned programs and activities
  • Perform and adhere to safety, cleanliness, and uniform standards associated with COVID-19 prevention

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Sports Management/ Recreation/Health Sciences or equivalent is preferred
  • At least 21 years or older
  • 1 to 2 years supervisory experience
  • Must be able to attain CDL (commercial driver’s license) within 6 months of hire
  • Flexible schedule, days, nights, and weekends
  • Able to obtain American Safety and Health Institute BLS instructor within 90 days of hire
  • Proficient computer skills with ability to learn new software programs

ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS, PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Will be required to walk, stand, kneel, stoop, push, and lift up to 100 pounds
  • While performing duties the employee may occasionally work in the outside weather conditions, and is exposed to wet, cold and /or humid conditions
  • Continuous operations requiring attention to detail and multi-tasking
  • Will be exposed to cleaning supplies
  • Must be able to stand or sit for long periods of time
  • Must be physically able to successfully complete required certifications

ACCOUNTABILITY:
Accountable for completion of assigned goals as measured by the number of people served, cause driven measures, service satisfaction scores, operating results, and supervisor evaluation of assigned duties.
Effect on End results:

  • Increase program participation by 5%
  • Meet and exceed revenue expectations
  • Ensure effective and efficient camp protocol at offsite camps
