Join a growing global Process Development team to accelerate Albemarle’s Energy Storage GBU growth plans for new Lithium materials, resources and processes through rapid development and scaleup, using flexible resources & facilities, both internally and externally.
The team links research and commercialization, developing the manufacturing processes at an intermediate scale to enable commercialization of new materials, new resources and major process improvements. The group’s portfolio comes from significant interaction with multiple stakeholders, including strategic business planning, R&D, hydrogeology, process technology, quality, manufacturing and project engineering.
Position Summary
This growing team is seeking a lab and pilot plant Technician to help develop new manufacturing process technologies and new products for current and future generations of high energy density batteries. The ideal candidate will have experience in the setup and operation of flexible lab and pilot plant equipment, and the execution of experiments to develop and validate the process concepts and unit operations.
Specific roles and responsibilities include:

Conduct all experiments and operate equipment in compliance with Corporate Health, Safety, and Environmental (HS&E) policies.

Maintain safe lab and pilot area environments using 5S principles.
-
Safely operate, diagnose problems, and maintain laboratory and pilot scale equipment.

Abide by all process procedures to ensure equipment is not damaged and the integrity of samples is maintained.

Setup lab and pilot scale equipment, in conjunction with Process Development Engineers, in configurations that ensure safety, efficiency and accuracy of the planned experiments.

Lead and participate in Lab Safety Audits prior to conducting experiments.

Perform laboratory and pilot scale experiments involving techniques such as inorganic reactions, filtration, crystallization, centrifugation, ion exchange, adsorption, particle size reduction, spray drying, rotary kiln calcination, solids drying and packaging.

Conduct basic analytical testing and sample preparation as needed.
-
Package, label, store, and ship samples in compliance with Albemarle policies and procedures.

Document all experiments, data, and process learnings in both lab notebooks and electronic forms.

Proactively record and communicate observations and results with PD engineers.
-
Prepare presentations and present work at team meetings.
-
Actively participate in team meetings.
-
Author and follow standard operating procedures. (SOPs).
-
Author and follow Job Safety Analysis (JSA).
-
Assist with chemical inventory management.
-
Assist with waste management.
-
Support lab and pilot scale trials by working shifts or extended hours for short periods of time as needed. Shift work is not a routine requirement.

Qualifications/Education/Experience

Minimum: Associate degree in a relevant technical field (science, mechanic, electrician, engineering), or equivalent and relevant industrial experience.

Desired Prior Work Experience: Lab, pilot or production scale chemical technician or operator.
