The Division of Student Affairs staff and 22 departments aim to help students navigate their time at IU, providing the tools they need to be successful in school and after graduation. The Office of Sexual Violence Prevention and Victim Advocacy provides support to students who are impacted by sexual violence and misconduct, dating/domestic violence, and stalking. It also works to prevent sexual violence through programs and education, such as bystander intervention training.

Job Summary


Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Provides accurate, engaging, and necessary sexual violence prevention education to Indiana University students.
  • Presents the 90-minute It’s On Us: Bystander Intervention Program that is required for first-year students. May also be invited to participate in and help lead other prevention programming through SVPVA.
  • Facilitates 2-5 presentations per week from early September 2023 to April 2024
  • Facilitates or attends other programs as assigned
  • Attends weekly team meetings
  • Assists in the development and execution of sexual violence prevention programs
  • Attends individual check-in meetings with the supervisor, as requested
  • Responds within 48 hours to emails sent by the supervisor
  • Communicates early and often with the supervisor regarding questions and/or concerns
  • Works to find a peer educator replacement for conflicts with assigned presentations/programs
  • Regularly and accurately completes timesheet by clocking in and out when beginning and ending work
  • Facilitates presentations and attends required team meetings and events each week during the fall and spring semesters of the 2023-2024 academic year

Qualifications


EDUCATION

Required

  • Currently enrolled as a student at Indiana University
  • Maintains a 2.5 GPA

SKILLS

Required

  • Interest and enthusiasm for working in sexual violence prevention education
  • Conducts work in a professional and ethical manner
  • Demonstrates respect to program participants and co-facilitators
  • Uses trauma-informed and inclusive language in all presentations, meetings, and events
  • Adheres to dress code for presentations
  • Commits to honor the peer educator job description requirements

Working Conditions / Demands


This person in this position must successfully complete 40 hours of initial training in the fall semester and 8 hours of follow-up training in the spring semester.

  • Thursday, August 17 - 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm
  • Friday, August 28 – 9:00 am to 7:00 pm
  • Saturday, August 19 – 9:00 am to 7:00 pm
  • Sunday, August 20 – 9:00 am to 7:00 pm

Weekly Presentation Schedule

  • Sundays – 2:00 to 4:00 pm, 4:00 to 6:00 pm, 6:00 to 8:00 pm, 8:00 to 10:00 pm . There are 2 separate rounds of sessions being facilitated during these times on Sundays
  • Mondays – 6:00 to 8:00 pm, 8:00 to 10:00 pm
  • Tuesdays – 6:00 to 8:00 pm, 8:00 to 10:00 pm
