Job description
West Virginia University within the WV Public Education Collaborative is currently accepting applications for a Specialist, Grades 6-12.
The Specialist is responsible for the organization and implementation of transdisciplinary STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) programs and initiatives in WV schools as part of the WVDE STEAM Technical Assistance Center that directly relate to student, educator, and administrator development and preparation.
Selected applicants will be required to demonstrate oral and written communication proficiency through activities during the interview session.

What you'll do:
- Lead hands-on classroom immersions on STEAM topics with students and teachers in grades 6 through 12.
- Provide technical assistance related to STEAM education to all academic sectors.
- Travel to schools and educational events across the state with occasional overnight stays.
- Assist in the development and implementation of effective and high-quality instructional STEAM programming.
- Work in connection with the West Virginia Department of Education, West Virginia University, West Virginia Department of Commerce, in addition to other agencies to analyze current STEAM programs’ performance to develop appropriate professional development programing.
- Support the development and implementation of technology and computer science in WV schools.
- Support teachers in the integration of technology into classroom instruction and projects.
- Store and transport materials and resources needed to lead classroom immersions and other educational activities.
- Work cooperatively with the West Virginia Department of Education and WV schools to establish connections with business partners to work toward career awareness with a focus on STEAM.
- Organize, coordinate, and implement professional learning activities, and work collaboratively with various public and private agencies.
- Assist in the development of Grades 6-12 STEAM online video lessons to be used as instructional resources.
- Work effectively with public school educators, higher education, county personnel, and other state/local agencies.
- Communicate, market, and evaluate STEAM initiatives with local school districts while handling all correspondence related to STEAM initiatives as well as researching and resolving any state/local initiative-related issues where required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in education, science, mathematics, career technical education or related field of study; Master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in science, mathematics, career technical education or related field of study.
- Holds a valid West Virginia teaching certification in science, mathematics, or career technical education; or holds a valid West Virginia secondary teaching certification with demonstrated experience in classroom technology integration.
- Experience writing, developing, and integrating STEAM lessons aligned to WV standards and policies, via in person demonstrations, online platforms and/or through virtual showcases.
- Comprehensive knowledge of 6-12 STEAM pedagogy and current 6-12 STEAM transdisciplinary practices.
- Demonstrated experience in establishing and coordinating joint relationships with businesses and educational agencies to foster collaborative opportunities for training and/or to promote STEAM awareness and partnerships.
- Knowledge of current practices in instructional technologies, computer science instruction, and career and technical education practices is preferred.
- Experience developing, conducting, and monitoring the delivery of professional learning programs.
- Evidence of skills required to lead public initiatives involving collaboration with various public and private entities related to STEAM.
- Demonstrated ability to schedule, organize and perform multiple assignments with minimum supervision.
- Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to foster collaborative team relationships.
Holds a valid driver license permitting the applicant to drive a state-owned vehicle. Willingness to travel.
